Welcome to the Enrichment Studies Program!

I am so excited to be working in the Enrichment Studies Program this year.  As many of you know, Sharon Anderson retired last year.  She will be missed by staff, students, and parents.  It is clearly evident that she cared deeply for the Enrichment Studies Program because her organization and expertise made the transition to this position a pleasure.  You can trust that I will do everything possible to ensure that your children have a wonderful experience in the program and flourish through various lessons and units.

The Elementary Gifted Support program in the Chichester School District is housed in the Linwood Elementary School.  The students in grades three and four attend one full day each week.  Students in first and second grade attend one half day each week.  Students in grades five and six are housed in the middle school in room A-7.  Both the fifth and sixth grade meet one full day each week.

The elementary curriculum focuses on the development of thinking skills, math-related problem solving, critical reading skills, writing, and research.  Student interests are addressed through science and social studies projects, dramatics, and art.  Technology is used to expand student knowledge in special academic areas, as well as to develop word processing skills.  Field trips and academic competitions are also vital components of the program.

Special organizations at the state and federal and state level provide support to parents and educators.  The Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education (PAGE) provides information to parents and educators about the needs of gifted students.  The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) works at the federal level to advocate the need for gifted programming.  Both organizations hold annual conferences and parents (and students) are welcome.

Two other sites with resources, links, articles, and information for gifted children, their teachers, and their parents are Hoagies' Gifted Education Page and Yahoo!  Resource for/about Gifted Youth K-12.
