Welcome to Kindergarten

“We are the World” is the theme of our Kindergarten end of the year program.  We are welcoming parents, guardians and grandparents to attend our celebration on June 16th at 9:30 a.m. in Linwood’s Gym.  The students have worked very hard practicing for this event.

We will also celebrate the end of the year with a fun filled Field Day on Thursday, June 10th. If it rains we will hold field day inside. Be sure to send your child to school with two water bottles, sneakers and have your child wear their assigned color T-shirt.  This day will be filled with many fun activities on the playground.  If you would like to volunteer you may meet us on the playground at 9:15.  We also have an exciting guest visiting kindergarten in the afternoon. Be sure to ask your child who their special guest visitor was on field day!

On Tuesday, June 8th we are going to the Delaware Nature Society.  Please be sure your child wears sneakers and brings a bagged lunch on this day.  Don’t forget to ask your child what he or she learned about insects on this special trip.

Please be sure to read daily to your child over the summer.  Have your child use his or her brand new library card and check out a few books from your local library.  It is important to continue having your child independently read as well.  This will help to prepare them for 1st grade!  Look out for this library card to come home on June 9th after our visit from the Marcus Hook Librarian.  You can also visit the Delaware County Library System’s website for free fun filled summer events:  http://www.delcolibraries.org/. Your child’s DELCO library card allows access to any library in Delaware County. Don’t forget to read a few books from the summer reading list and send it back to school with your child when they enter 1st grade. There will be an incentive offered for summer reading.

Continue to have your child Kid Write daily using the summer journal you received from your child’s teacher. You can also have your child write and mail a letter to their former teacher, friends and family members. Be sure to study sight words, continue counting to 100, and recognizing numbers 0-30 to help prepare your child for 1st grade. Try to turn learning it into a game by using sidewalk chalk, count while exercising, and play memory or bingo to keep your child sharp with everything he or she has learned this year.

Enjoy your Summer!!
