Linwood School’s Art Room News
March is National Youth Art Month
Youth Art Month is an annual observance to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. Youth Art Month provides opportunities for acknowledging skills that are fostered through experience in the visual arts that are not possible in other subjects offered in the curriculum.
In January of 2010, our State Senate passed a proclamation designating the month of March 2010 as "Youth Art Month" in Pennsylvania. It highlights art education’s importance in our public schools. The proclamation states that art education at the primary and secondary levels: develops creative problem-solving abilities and critical thinking abilities; provides tools for students to lead fuller, more meaningful lives by teaching sensitivity to beauty, order and other qualities; develops a deeper understanding of other cultures and beliefs; enhances and reinforces the knowledge students gain in other subjects; a necessity to include art education in all students' academic experience; a fundamental part of our educational system and an essential and viable academic endeavor. The Chichester Elementary Art Education Department has planned a number of activities in celebration of Youth Art Month to support our state’s resolution.
ART SHAPES OUR WORLD
The Chichester Elementary Youth Art Month Show
Beginning March 2, 2010, The Chichester Elementary Art Department will exhibit 44 student artworks from Linwood School, Marcus Hook School, Boothwyn School, and Hilltop School at the Upper Chichester Recreation Center on Fury Road for the 16th Annual Youth Art Month Exhibit entitled “ART SHAPES OUR WORLD”. This exhibition presents our students with the opportunity to participate in an actual art show complete with opening reception and awards ceremony. Over 200 community members, district staff and students attend this opening exhibition. The display remains on view for a two week period enabling the Chichester Community to experience the talent and effort of our students and art education staff.
