Boothwyn Elementary School
Respect ~ Responsibility ~ Caring
Welcome to Boothwyn Elementary School. Boothwyn Elementary School is one of four elementary schools in the Chichester School District. We are located outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Our school houses approximately 300 students for Kindergarten through Grade Four.
Our staff is dedicated to the success of each and every child in our school. Boothwyn Elementary is small and student-centered. Our teachers and support staff provide a nurturing and caring environment for our students.
Students who attend Boothwyn receive many educational opportunities. We have many initiatives that are being implemented in our school:
- The Olweus Bullying Program is now being taught in our school. Our students are being taught what bullying is, and how to handle situations when they happen. (rules)
- We have received a grant from PDE to provide our school with a data driven Positive Behavior Support Program (pdf document). We now have a mascot, Eggbert the Eagle, who provides positive support and motivation for our students.
· 100 Book Challenge provides our students with trade books to read during our reading classes.
· Our Kindergarten through second grade curriculum incorporates Kidwriting to improve their Language Arts skills. Our third and fourth graders use Writer's workshop.
· KidBiz and Study Island, web-based computer programs, bring currents events and differentiated instruction to our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms.
· Every classroom has a Smartboard and 2 computer stations. We also have 2 wireless laptop carts and a computer lab which allows us to integrate technology into our curriculum. We also integrate Senteos into our lessons and assessments.
· Study Island, a computer program to support Language Arts and Math, will be introduced this year.
· Our Language Arts Program includes Shared and Guided Reading to provide “best practice” reading instruction. We also have a Response to Intervention and Instruction (RTII) block, which provides supplemental reading instruction.
· We use a math program entitled Envisions, which integrates technology and hands on learning opportunities for students.
· Words Their Way provides a differentiated spelling program uniquely leveled to your student’s needs and abilities and is used in third and fourth grades. Fundations, a phonics program, is used in kindergarten through second grade.
· We have many resources available at Destiny , our library online catalog.
· Kindergarten is a full day program
The Boothwyn educational program is supported by a variety of resource services and personnel. We have three reading specialists, two learning support teachers, an instructional support teacher, and a guidance counselor on staff. Speech and language support, physical therapy, and occupational therapy are provided to students who need additional therapy. We have paraprofessionals to support our teachers and students in our classrooms.
Certified Art, Music, and Physical Education teachers present a fully articulated program to our students. We have also recently added computer classes. To enhance our music program, 4th graders have the opportunity to join chorus and hand bells. Concerts, an Art Show, Academic Ceremonies, Book Fairs, Fun Day, and many other annual activities complete the well-rounded education of Boothwyn students.
