The Title I Program (part of the No Child Left Behind Act, the new education law signed by President Bush on January 8, 2002) is a federally funded program designed to provide supplemental services in reading to children in public and non-public schools who are not achieving at the levels expected of children of their age and grade placement.
Title I support in the Chichester School District is available to students in Marcus Hook and Linwood Elementary Schools and to 5th grade students in Chichester Middle School. Highly qualified teachers supplement classroom instruction through guided practice and reinforcement activities in language arts in the classroom. Students may receive additional tutoring, if needed, during the school day in the Title I Learning Center. An After-School Reading Club is also offered at each school.
Children are selected to participate in the Title I Reading Program based on teacher recommendation, classroom performance and reading tests.
